About Me

Veganism and PCOS can both be overwhelming in their own ways so I am here to help you!

Hi and welcome to my blog “Vegan Cyster”.

My name is Bethany and I am both a vegan and a cyster. By day I work in retail and by night I am an aspiring journalist, eco-warrior and advocate for women with PCOS.

I know what you are thinking “oh this is just another one of those pushy vegan lifestyle blogs”. No not at all I am not here to tell you what to do I am just here to offer you options which may enhance your life and help you to lead a healthier lifestyle.

How can I help you?

What is my experience in these fields? Well I dont have any fancy qualifications in nutrition or diet but I have life experience which I have gained on my journey into veganism. I can offer inspiration when you lack the motivation to continue, I can provide guidance in the form of recipes and life stories or I can just be an ear and listen to your concerns and worries.

Being diagnosed with pcos at 16 was scary, emotional and very overwhelming. However, what was more scary was the fact that the doctors didn’t seem to understand my condition and so I recieved no support or help with diet or lifestyle choices. Now I am older and wiser I understand that some of my previous choices have been detrimental to my health and I am working hard to try and reverse as much damage as I can and I promise to help you do the same.

Vegan Cyster will provide you with:

  • 100% Vegan Recipes (developed or adapted by my own mama)
  • Beauty and Fashion news and updates including which companies are or are not vegan and cruelty free
  • PCOS tips and tricks
  • A Vegan Cysters Guide to PCOS
  • Research News
  • Articles on fertility, ovulation, periods and the side effects of PCOS
  • Much more as the blog grows

What is a Cyster?

Cyster is a slang term for a woman with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Cyst is synonymous with sister and promotes a pcos sisterhood of women who support each other.

A cyster is a woman who has polycystic ovarian syndrome, which affects the delicate balance of hormones within the body leading to infertility and other unpleasant side effects. I have lived with pcos for over 10 years now and everyday throws up a new challenge. Whether it be the chronic pain in my pelvis or the fight against the evil refined carbohydrate, I have to find the strength within myself to power on through my day just as many other cysters do.

This blog is dedicated to all those warrior cysters who fight an uphill struggle against pressure from society, pressure from family and pressure from themselves to fit into a typical feminine role of family creator. We are told as women that we must look a certain way or act a certain way and if we do not we are to be ridiculed until we bow under the pressure and conform. Well not this cyster, I am proud of the scars I have gained in my battle with pcos and I will continue to use my mach 3 so I do not look like an extra in ZZ Top.

What is a Vegan?

(.n) a person who does not eat or use animal products. “I’m a strict vegan”

The vegan portion of this blog is aimed at everyone who has a compassionate heart and an open mind. Veganism is the belief that every living creature on the planet has as much right to live in peace as the next. I do not consume dairy, eggs, honey or meat and I will not be posting any recipes that contain these ingredients. I am more than willing to have a civilised debate with people who are willing to listen

and not throw hatred and anger towards the unknown.

As for the rest of my life, I am married with 7 rescue cats and a very soft labrador. I have a law degree and I am currently studying for a degree in psychology with counselling. In the future I would very much like to offer counselling to women going through IVF or experiencing problems conceiving or helping people with eating disorders.
